My talk

i gave a talk in sacrament meeting today and i thought that i should share it will my family so here it is :)

I was asked to speak on faith in Jesus Christ. When I told my mom about this topic she quickly thought of the song, “I’ll follow him in faith.” The second verse reads the lord has blessed me to feel his love, I have felt his promptings and learned to trust so in all I do I’ll be faithful too the things I know are true. In the true to the faith it say this about trusting in the lord Jesus Christ “having faith in Jesus Christ means completely relying on him-trusting in his infinite power, intelligence, and love.” The next part of the song says the lord has blessed me with simple faith. With a faithful heart I will sing his praise. I will raise my voice and proclaim my choice to follow him in faith. He has shown the way and trough all my days I will follow him in faith.There are many ways we can follow in faith, but one of the best ways to do that is by the way you live. In moroni 7;33 the savior says, if ye will have faith in me ye shall gave power to do whatsoever thing is expedient on me” having faith can lead you to do many good works, obey the commandments, over come temptation and repent. Faith can also work miracles. In Luke 18:35-42 it says and I t came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho a certain blind man sat by the way side begging and hearing the multitude pass by he asked what it meant and they told him that jesus of Nazareth passeth by and he cried saying jesus thou son of david have mercy on me and they which went before rebuked him that he should hold his peace but he cried so much the more thou son of david have mercy on me and jesus stood and commanded him to be brought unto him and when he was come near he asked him saying what wilt thou that I shall do unto thee and he said lord that I may receive my sight and jesus said unto him receive they sight they faith hat saved thee in the fourth article of faith it say that the first principle and ordinance of the gospel is faith in the lord Jesus Christ. If it is the first principle, it must be very important. Faith is important to me. With out my faith in the lord Jesus Christ and his plan of salvation, this previous week would have been extremely hard for me, and my family. As some of you know, I had a cousin pass away this last weekend. Because my family has such strong faith in the plan of salvation, we know we will see him again.

Friday morning I was participating in the excuse-making after basketball when I noticed I had forgotten my phone (will post about the talk on phones later).  I decided to continue on to work and go the day without the cell phone.  So I called Kari and asked her if there were any missed calls, and to IM me if any calls came in.  

Later that morining, I came out of a meeting and saw an IM saying "call me asap".

I called Kari to find out our nephew Matthew (some of you will remember him wearing a helmet) had passed away.  I spoke with Brent and he said to get home.  I drove home and found out Kari was at Laura and Ritchie's house already.

So the short of it is he passed away in his sleep after month of improvement on the seizures he has been experiencing.  He was eight years old has big beautiful brown eyes and a great toothless (lost his teeth from one of the seizures) grin that makes anybody smile!

He is a precious soul and I am sure he is being welcomed in paradise with open arms.  He most certainly will be missed here on earth!

Viewing is tonight, and the funeral tomorrow.  The family is well, and both Ritchie and Laura had a witness that his mortal test was over as they were on there way to the hospital.  (they were both coming from different directions).  Kinda neat.

im a freak!!

we came ho9me from church today and somehow got on the conversation of what our names were spelled backwards. for example, allison is nosilla (nah-seal-uh) and brens is nednerb. its was very exciting going around the table teasing each other about our silly names. well kyras backwards is aryk (a-reek) well we are sitting at the table listening to regan, kyra, and allis conversation that went something like this
kyra- haha your a nagger! it kinda sounds like ragger! (the little girls laugh)
regan-yeah, well alli is nosilla! and your aryk! haha
alli- haha...aryk reminds me of a freak. (we all laugh)
after a little more conversation regan and kyra are heard having this funny argument.
R-im a freak!
K-no your not! im aryk!
R-(stands on her stool!) NO! IM A FREAK!!
we all laugh as mom exlaims, well you dont need to admit it!!
we all had our laughs about that then we finished our food. i came to right this and kyra walks over here to see if im doing anything interesting and noticing that im not, runs back to the kitchen yelling
"Im aryk the ffffrrrrreeeeaaaakkkk!!!!" haha it was very funny!

clarification on the schedule

Ok I tried to have the time separated by tabs... it didn't work. So the first time is the Weber County Fairgrounds time... (Tuesday) and the second time is for the Central Davis Junior High games (Saturday)

Brenden's Schedule

Ok here are the two different schedules for Brenden's Basketball games.
There are nine kids on the team, and I think Brenden is doing well and starting really learn some great stuff. He needs to get some big muscles so he can box out and be a good rebounder. I love watching and talking with him. He is really interested in improving and tries to work on the different things he deems important for that game or practice. It is Great!

Yes I am happy. I made the comp team. We are in two divisions one our record is 0-2 the other is 2-0.

Regan and the Eggs!

Regan and Kyra are so much fun to watch and listen to. The other day they were playing with their friends and they decided to take a few dozen eggs outside and break them on the sidewalk. Yeah, I wasn't too happy about that. I explained that eggs are very expensive these days and that if we don't have eggs we can't make some of their favorite foods like pancakes, or bread. They said they were sorry and cleaned up their mess. A few days later I was taking the garbage out and noticed a new pile of eggs broken on the sidewalk. I was really angry but tried to be patient. I asked them about it and they told me that they did it again because they forgot they were expensive. Well I have never "grounded" my children before but I took them over to the calender and showed them today (Monday) and pointed to Saturday. I told them that they would not be allowed to play with friends (their favorite thing to do) till Saturday! I expected lots of crying and pouting but they said okay. A week or s0 later I was talking to my neighbor Melissa. Regan and Kyra like to go to her house and they usually tell her everything that goes on around our house. So of course they told her about the eggs. She told me that a few days earlier Regan came over and told Melissa that she had learned how to play a song on the piano. Melissa said Regan started looking around for a piano so she could play the song for her, but she didn't find one. Regan asked Melissa why some people don't have piano's at their house, Melissa said well some people don't have room for a piano or some people can't afford to buy a piano because piano's are very expensive. Regan looked down at the floor and said "oh yeah, so are eggs!".

Good Afternoon everyone;

I have been thinking and thinking that I need to write down this funny conversation so we don't forget it, and I am just going to do it right now so I don't procrastinate any longer.  

Tuesday evening we had a little FHE, 'cause Monday was really busy.  After our discussion we played a game with candy bars and dice... if you roll doubles you get to start opening the candy bar to eat it, and when someone else rolls doubles, you give it up to them, etc, etc....  The catch is you open the candy bar up with a knife and fork.  your fingers cannot touch the candy bar or wrapper.  Fun, eh?  

Well anyway, we were done with the game, and had a few candybars left over, so we asked church questions and if you got them right, you got to have a candy bar (without the knife or fork).  So when Kari got to Regan, she asked her to fill in the blank.  She said 

"Jesus wants me for a ... " 

and Regan replied with confidence... 

"a popcorn ball!"

It was really funny.  And we sure love her.  All our kids are growing up really fast.  It is tough.  we don't want them to grow so quickly, but it is exciting to see the things they do and the surprises that come up.  I love my family.  : - D

Great Day Yesterday!

Thanks to all those who came over yesterday.  It was a ton of fun!  I really had a great time and felt like it was a great experience (spiritually and socially)

Ok, I learned that if you use the "large" image size for your photo, the words look silly on the side of the photo. Sorry about that. Here is the photo of the sheet rock in the kitchen. It shows the new entry, and all the canned lights we put in. It is coming along nicely.

We (you guessed it... loosely) are spending most of our time at the Kinmonts house, then sleeping at our house. It is kind of crazy, and probably beginning to wear on the Kinmonts. Sorry guys we (loosely) are going as fast as we can. We had a small wait on mud and tape for the sheetrock. there was some reported illness, but the ball is rolling and as soon as the painting is done we will have cabinets and cupboards, then I need to get busy laying the tile. It is fun and frustrating at the same time. Man my wife is wonderful! She has done a great job, and continues to carry the load in the above mentioned 'we'

On this top photo you can see what is left of the old wall and the entry into the family room. We moved the wall closer to the front of the house for more kitchen space and closed off the entry to the family room. We also took that little room down that you see through the entry there.
Here is a photo of the small room I mentioned above. There were all kinds of funny boards and plywood in the ceiling of that littl room. We found that when we were pulling wiring for the new lighting.

This photo is taken from the living room, looking into the front room and kitchen. On the left is the old entry, and the wider one on the right will be our new entry into the front room. I am sorry to inform you that the brick will be gone also. We (once again I use the term very loosely) put a wall up there. It served to hide the brick, and it also allowed us to install some outlets and light switches. Pretty cool.

ok! I have some pictures! We are painting this weekend. I use the 'we' term very loosely. Kari is painting, and Mandy Robby's wife has been helping. I am planning on helping this afternoon and tomorrow, unless there is some crazy thing I can invent to get out of it... (kidding!)

So these photos are going to be a little outdated, but that is alright, I am, too. Right Sal?

There is a before photo up there. Then we have our all girl demolition crew. I think they got those holes in the wall after 47 attempts with the sledge hammer. :-)

remodel progress

I know! I still don't have any photos up for you yet... Sorry!

Yesterday we were expecting the city inspector, and then planning on havin the sheetrock crew come today. Imagine the surprise and elation to see the sheetrock crew first thing in the morning. (even before the inspector) Needless to say, we have the sheetrock up, and today they will be mudding and taping.

The moment of truth is coming fast. Soon I will have to lay the tile. Kari picked some really nice looking slate, and we found some remnants for the carpeted areas, to save a few bucks. It is starting to come together. The Kinmonts are probably sick of us making a mess of their house and eating tons of bean burritos.

Hello all! Brenden and I returned from Camp Bartlett Friday night to a empty front room, kitchen and family room. It was crazy. Brenden did great for his first scout camp. He earned a rank advancement and four merit badges. He got a partial on the Rifle merit badge. It is tough. He had to get five "quarters". A quarter is a grouping of five shots within the diameter (roughly) of a quarter. They give you five rounds, and you shoot at the top left target on the paper, fifty yards away. Then if you shoot more than five rounds, you move to the next target, or shoot at the target the counselor tell you to shoot at. If you have more than five rounds in a grouping, that group is not eligable as a "quarter". His first attempt he received five rounds (.22) and was, as they say in Major League "just a bit outside". Yeah, he missed the paper. But he learned and improved every time, and on the final day he got three quarters. I am very proud of Brenden and all the hard work he did. He got his First Aid, and Emergency Prep merit badges (required ones), and he got his Leatherwork and Basketry merit badges. He said his favorite by far was the Rifle merit badge. Bishop Johnson told him we would go out shooting really soon and finish that one off for him.

I was able to complete one length of boondoggle, multiple pieces of dutch oven Chicken, roast, and trimmings, and several servings of cobbler, upside down cake (pineapple), and roasted marshmallows. We had a father there who was in charge of a menu and spearheaded the cooking. Don't worry dad, the scouts were assigned to cook and clean up, we didn't spoil them that much! :-)

All in all the camp was a great success for Brenden and for our troop. (52 merit badges, First place in the tug-o-war, John Coulter race (relay) , troop skit and yell). I will attempt to throw on the photos of the camp and the house as soon as I can.

Rorie Ann McEvoy

Rorie Ann has been such a blessing to our family. She was born on February 5, 2008. She just turned 5 months old and she weighs 15 lbs. now. She loves to sing while nursing and she loves to laugh at daddy!! (actually we all love to do that). At her last check up with Dr. Grey her cardiologist, he said that the pressures in her heart had gone up close to what they were before her balloon dilation at the end of February. He said that he will do another Echo in November. So for now we just watch her and pray!

A Busy Mother's Attempt at Family History

I've always tried to follow the prophet. So far I have failed in a few areas, (okay, maybe more than a few). Keeping a journal and a family history is undoubtedly one of them. So when I was introduced to this blog concept I was pretty excited! I have made a goal to post something at least once a week!

As you can see our family is growing up too fast and my time as a young mother seems to be slipping through my finger. I honestly can't believe how fast they grow up. I used to think that people were just saying "They grow up so fast" as small talk, like "isn't this lovely weather we are having". I have found out just how true that statement is!!!

I pray that Heavenly Father will forgive me for not recording much of the past 13 years, and that he will help me as I try to record the important events, thoughts, actions and testimonies that I see happening in my family!
